  1. Today’s veneer seems to be quite thin. Has it historically been so thin?

    1. Michael,

Veneers have gotten thinner throughout the years. Not too long ago, veneers were cut at 1/16″. Thicknesses moved to 1/32″, 1/40″ and today you find commercial veneers being sliced at 1/64″. Needless to say, a 1/64″ is too easy to sand through or break through when your project gets dinged. We prefer to purchase veneer at a 1/16″ (still available from some suppliers), or make our own in the shop.
