Not Your Father’s Tool Handle


Who says a tool handle has to be round? Earlier this year, I returned from the American Association of Woodturners Symposium with a new pair of hollowing tools by John Jordan. John would happily have sold me handles, but I wanted to make my own to save a few bucks. And I decided to make something special – three-sided handles in hard maple.

This handle won’t roll off the bench. The shape makes it distinctive, so I can quickly find the right tool amid a pile of others. And it gives me a chance to do some multi-axis turning.

  1. This is a nicely written and informative article . I like being able to click zoom the pictures for more detail. I have started using some lobed handles in my work and I have been very happy with them. Well done 360 woodworking !
